Who knew that pumpkins could be so much fun? We've been giving the hens a whole pumpkin every week or so. They absolutely love them! We don't need to cut them or crack them--the girls just dig right in. They eat everything except for the very thin orange rind and the stem. Pumpkins seem to be as big a hit as watermelons were this summer. The hens are going to be mighty disappointed soon--we only have a couple more tiny pumpkins left from Halloween.
We've had quite a few cold days and even some snow here in central Ohio. That's fairly unusual. The hens don't seem to mind the cold. What they don't like is rain and wind--I can tell how windy it is outside by looking out the window to see how many hens are running around the yard.
I need to think of a good winter treat now that the snow's starting to fly. Do you think that maybe they'll enjoy heads of cabbage? (Probably not. The girls seem to have as big a sweet tooth as my son.)
