Even though I had 30 babies ordered, I just couldn't resist picking up six poor unwanted fluffballs from the sale bin at the feed store. There are six of these babies, and they at least a month older than the little chickies in the brooder. Since they have all their feathers, they get to go outside. They had a great time today, pecking at anything and everything. They're fun to watch, because every once in a while they will explode into the air, trying to see if they can fly.
They're still too small to live with the big hens, so they have their own little house outside the pasture fence. The rest of the flock was very curious about the newcomers. These girls will start laying eggs this fall. Supposedly they will lay a "tinted" egg--more of a cream color than white.
