Meet the Flock: "The Other One" the Easter Egger AND a Contest!

The Other One and a Red Star hen

Contest closed. There were no entries, and thusly no winners.

This is The Other One. Every time people ask me about my roosters, I tell them that I have two, Bruce and The Other One. The Other One is an Easter Egger--not really a breed, just a mutt chicken that carries the blue egg gene. Many hatcheries sell them as Arucanas or Ameraucanas, but that's not right. Both Arucanas and Ameraucanas are recognized breeds with strict breed standards which most hatchery birds don't come close to meeting.

The Other One is a rescue. Someone asked me if I wanted to save him from the soup pot, and I haven't regretted the decision. Since roosters are the farm freeloaders, I have strict criteria for roosters that get to stick around: 1. Must be neat to look at; 2. Must be good with the hens; and 3. Must not be aggressive. The Other One fits right in at Red Wicket, and I hope we'll get babies that lay blue or green eggs out of him next spring.

Side view--check out those awesome long feathers
There is only one problem with The Other One--his lack of a real name. That's where you can help, but entering the Name the Rooster Contest. Leave a name for The Other One in the comments section (make sure you leave a way to contact you if you win) and you will win one dozen Red Wicket Farm eggs*. Winner to be chosen by a five year old and a two year old. :) Contest ends on Friday, May 11 at 5:00pm EST. Good luck!

*Egg winner must be within our delivery area, or be willing to pick up eggs at the farm, or know someone who is willing to deliver the eggs to you; we can't send eggs through the mail.
